30,000 sf addition and renovation
the opportunity
Bloomberg Hall provides quiet contemplation spaces for Einstein’s successors at the Institure for Advanced Study’s School of Natural Sciences. The primary areas of study at the School are astrophysics, mathematical physics, and string theory. KSS Architects was the Architect of Record for this project, which provided additional space for the School, including offices for 50 faculty members and visiting scholars, libraries, administrative space, and a lecture hall. A central feature is the Bloomberg Common Room, a transparent garden room that looks into the entry and garden courts. The room is designed to encourage interaction and dialogue among the theoretical physicists working there.
Our Approach
The design of the addition works within the context of the existing buildings that flank it. Exterior finish materials include limestone exterior walls and paving, wood windows, and copper roof.
