The Opportunity

The NHL Innovation Lab located in the Prudential Center — home of the New Jersey Devils, is a cutting-edge environment for research, testing, and technology development at the intersection of hockey and innovation. Occupying a 1,300-square-foot suite adjacent to the practice rink, the former family lounge provides a platform for the NHL, HBSE, and their partners to experiment with advanced tools, systems, and strategies that improve game operations and fan engagement. A small, dedicated data center is integrated into the space to support real-time analysis, data capture, and storage for league-wide initiatives.

Our Approach

The lab supports a range of initiatives that push the boundaries of what is possible both on and off the ice. Modular branding components, including digital displays, signage, and lighting allow the space to easily shift between branded identities. An open ceiling and raw material palette reflect the energy of the game, with references to ice textures, rink geometry, and server circuitry layered throughout. The space emphasizes clarity, movement, and transformation. Transversal lines, curved forms, and bold lighting gestures define zones for collaboration and testing, while mobile workstations and flexible seating allow for seamless reconfiguration. Designed to accommodate both heads-down development and occasional high-profile visits, the NHL Innovation Lab is a dynamic, high-performance space built for experimentation and the future of ice hockey.
