The Opportunity

The Pier Club, a design-build collaboration with AECOM and Phelps Construction, aimed to transform a space in the Prudential Center, into an immersive representation of New Jersey’s coastal identity. Budget constraints required careful planning and engineering to ensure the vision could be realized. The existing space featured large, outdated seating arrangements that were hard to fill, prompting a redesign with smaller, varied seating options to improve marketability. 

Our Approach

The design reimagines hospitality through the lens of New Jersey’s coastline, capturing the essence of the region’s rugged beauty with warm wood, raw stone, patinated metals, and gold accents that symbolize sand and sunrise. Moving beyond a typical “beachy” aesthetic, it embraces darker tones and green waters, capturing the area’s industrial charm.

High-end design elements were incorporated in-line with the broader master plan, creating a seamless and elevated experience. Thoughtfully framed views and layered materials enhance the space, creating cinematic moments throughout. The result is an innovative hospitality experience that celebrates the tactile beauty of the shoreline while offering a memorable, multi-layered destination.
